Roman blinds - a unique combination of aesthetics and functionality

Imagine: you are standing by the window with a cup of hot coffee, enjoying a moment of relaxation. The sun is peeping through, filling the interior with natural light. You are enjoying your coffee, but something is disturbing, the sun's rays are a little too intense... With an unhurried movement, you lower the Roman blind, which slightly dims the light, creating a pleasant and cosy atmosphere. Now you can fully enjoy your favourite coffee, wrapped in the warmth of the sun's rays....

Modern Roman blinds - a practical and stylish solution

Roman blinds are both a functional window arrangement and a unique decorative element that emphasises the style of the interior. Thanks to the wide selection of fabrics and patterns, you can perfectly match them to any room - from minimalist, modern arrangements to classic and elegant interiors.

Made-to-measure Roman blinds - style, comfort and a perfect fit for your interior

Made-to-measure Roman blinds combine the elegance of curtains and the practicality of roller blinds to create a versatile window decoration solution. They work in a similar way to typical roller blinds, but add extra warmth and cosiness to the interior thanks to the soft fabrics.

Depending on the material chosen, they can perform a variety of functions:

✔ Blackout Roman blinds - ideal for bedrooms and rooms where light protection is key.

✔ Semi-transparent Roman blinds - great for living and dining rooms where you want subtle diffusion of light.

✔ Decorative Roman blinds - an elegant accent for glamour, Scandinavian or classic style interiors.

With Roman blinds, you can freely regulate the amount of light in the room, while maintaining the comfort of use.

Blackout Roman blinds - effective protection from excessive light and privacy

Are you looking for an elegant solution to effectively shade a room and protect it from the outside eye? Roman blinds with blackout blinds are the ideal option for bedrooms, children's rooms and other interiors where privacy and ample shading are key. Using densely woven fabrics, these blinds block out the sun's intense rays while adding warmth and cosiness to the interior.

Semi-transparent Roman blinds - light diffusion and an elegant look

If you want a stylish look and a diffused light effect, choose translucent Roman blinds. They are the perfect solution for a living room, dining room or study where natural light is an asset. The soft fabric combined with the adjustable height allows you to create a pleasant, light atmosphere while protecting the interior from excessive sunlight.

Roman blinds made of combined fabrics - a designer solution for modern interiors (other name: Roman curtain blinds)

Do you want your Roman blinds to be unique and perfectly matched to your interior design? Opt for Roman blinds made of combined fabrics, which combine different materials for a unique decorative effect. A popular choice is to combine a curtain fabric in the upper and lower sections with a translucent curtain fabric in the middle sections. These types of roller blinds are made to order, so they can be perfectly matched to the colour scheme of the interior and the style of the arrangement. This creates a unique, very elegant roller blind that perfectly matches the colour of the interior and only slightly restricts light from outside.

Unlike classic roller blinds, Roman blinds are made of fabric, which gives them a soft and elegant appearance. Instead of rolling up on a roll, when pulled up they form decorative folds, resembling an impressively draped curtain. This gives the interior a cosy and harmonious feel.

Roman blinds can be smoothly adjusted and stopped at any desired height, adjusting the amount of incoming light to one's own needs. The control mechanism, most often in the form of a chain or cord, ensures user-friendliness and precise control over the extent to which the roller blind is extended - the light.

In addition to their practical functions, Roman blinds also play the role of a stylish decorative element, blending in perfectly with both modern and classic interior designs. A wide selection of fabrics and patterns allows you to match them to any room, the roller blinds adding a unique and elegant look.

How to install the Roman blind?

The installation of the Roman blind is simple; the roller blind can be adjusted to various window and wall layouts. Depending on your preferences and technical conditions, the roller blinds can be mounted without drilling on the window frame, on the curtain rod and on the wall or ceiling.

1. Mounting of the roller blinds without drilling - on the window frame, the so-called installation-free Roman blinds.

Ideal for rented accommodation or for people who do not want to drill holes in the walls.

✔- Mounting on special brackets to the window frame - invasive Roman blinds can be mounted on the window frame with clamping brackets that hold firmly without drilling.

✔-Easy ‘click’ system - the aluminium mechanism of the roller shutter is attached to the brackets installed on the window frame using a simple click system, which ensures stability and easy clipping of the roller shutter into the brackets.

✔ If we want to open the window - the non-invasive roller blinds fixed to the window frame stay on the window sash and move with it.

2. Mounting the roller blinds on the wall or ceiling

✔ Screw and peg fixing - the roller blind brackets are screwed to the wall or ceiling using wall plugs, which guarantees durability and stability.

✔ Roman blind mounted to the wall/ceiling is an ideal solution for large windows and roller blinds - this type of mounting is particularly suitable for roller blinds for larger window areas or balcony windows.

Please note: When mounting on the wall or ceiling, it is recommended to place the mechanism at least 20 cm above the window frame to ensure free opening of the window sash when the roller blind is raised.

3 Mounting the Roman blind on the curtain rod

Mounting the Roman blind on the curtain rod is an excellent option if you already have a curtain rod installed in the room and do not wish to dismantle it.

✔ Mounting the blind on braces or a tunnel - the blind can simply be slipped onto the curtain rod, choosing either the braced or tunnel version depending on the style you prefer.

✔ A good solution for smaller roller blinds - for larger roller blinds, it is advisable to use a mechanism with a gear in an aluminium cassette, so as to ensure stability and comfort of use.

Types of fabrics used in Roman blinds

In addition to the appropriate installation method, the type of fabric is a key factor in choosing the ideal Roman blind. Depending on the expected light protection or privacy, there are several options to choose from:

1. Roman blinds with opaque fabric - maximum privacy and blackout - blackout Roman blinds

✔ They provide full blackout, making them ideal for bedrooms and other rooms where privacy is key.

✔ They block out sunlight, making them conducive to a comfortable rest and improving the quality of sleep.

✔ They reduce glare on screens, making them also ideal for offices or TV rooms.

2. Roman blinds with translucent fabric - natural light and comfort, e.g. linen or linen-blend blinds

✔ They gently filter daylight, creating a pleasant, warm atmosphere in the room.

✔ They do not completely obscure the interior, so they are a great choice for the living room, dining room or kitchen.

✔ They help to maintain a balance between privacy and access to light.

3 Roman blinds with transparent fabric - lightness and a decorative touch, the so-called Roman curtain blinds

✔ Allows a large amount of light to pass through, giving the interior a bright and spacious feel.

✔ Allow a view to the outside without restricting too much natural light.

✔ Above all, they have an aesthetic function, complementing stylish interior design.

Additional fabric properties - year-round comfort ...

Some Roman blind fabrics have additional properties that affect thermal comfort:

✔ Heat-insulating roller blinds - made of densely woven fabrics, they help retain heat in winter, reducing energy loss.

✔ Reflective-coated fabrics - reflect the sun's rays, minimising room heating in summer.

The perfect Roman blind for your style

Roman blinds are available in a variety of styles, making it easy to match your individual taste and interior design.

Modern Roman blinds - Roman blinds in a minimalist style

Roman blinds in a solid colour are the perfect choice for modern interiors with a minimalist design and simple lines. Models in neutral colours such as white, black, grey, grey beige, champagne go well with modern high gloss furniture, minimalist sofas and chrome tables.

Roman blinds in a classic style (classic Roman blinds)

If you prefer an elegant and timeless style, choose elegant Roman blinds made of fine fabrics, with linen or organza, materials with a slight sheen. These models go perfectly with antique furniture, such as a leather Chesterfield sofa. These types of Roman blinds go perfectly with luxurious chandeliers and richly decorated furniture.

Rustic-style Roman blinds - cosiness and natural charm

If you love a warm, rustic atmosphere and natural materials, rustic-style Roman blinds will be the perfect choice for your interior. Nature-inspired models, made of linen fabrics or decorated with rustic details, go perfectly with wooden furniture and classic arrangements.

What else should you pay attention to when choosing your blind?

Linen Roman blinds - natural fabrics will bring warmth and harmony to your interior. Roman blinds made from linen or a linen blend are durable, stylish and easier to maintain than pure linen, which creases easily.

Rustic details - wide braces, decorative embroidery or borders will add a nostalgic charm to the interior.

Nature-inspired patterns - if you want to add freshness to the room, choose Roman blinds with a flower or leaf motif. Classic checked and striped patterns are also an ideal choice, as they go well with white Provencal-style furniture.

Where does the Roman blind fit in?

Roman blind for the kitchen

The Roman blind is perfect as a window decoration in the kitchen. In our gallery of inspirations you can find many examples of a fantastic connection of the colour and pattern of the roller blind with the other decorative elements of the kitchen (walls, cabinets, countertops).

The Roman blind for the kitchen is a solution with both decorative and practical qualities - pulling up by the chain is very convenient in the kitchen, a place where we do not always have free or super-clean hands. You won't get the fabric dirty, and you can easily regulate the amount of light coming into the kitchen (or shield yourself from outside glances) depending on your needs.

Roman blind for the living room

Roman blind for the living room? Of course yes, especially for a modern living room. For large living room windows, we can juxtapose several Roman blinds side by side; for northern windows, use a curtain roller blind. We can also use roller blinds on the window and decorative curtains on the sides. There are really many possibilities, many interesting examples can be found in our gallery.

Roman blind for the bedroom

Absolutely! Made of a blackout fabric, it will provide intimacy and style, especially in modern interiors. Similarly to the living room - you can consider adding shawls of decorative curtains on the sides of the window, made of fabric of the same colour as the roller blind.

Roman blind for the terrace

The Roman blind is most suitable as a shading decoration for a terrace or conservatory. In the case of a terrace, we must ensure that it is made of stronger materials that are resistant to weather conditions. These can be shading or sun-transparent fabrics, depending on the sunlight conditions and needs. It is also necessary to think about the way the bottom of the blind is attached to the floor, this for a situation of simultaneous protection against gusts of wind. Of course, in high winds, storms - the roller blind should be pulled upwards.

The Roman blind for the conservatory is not exposed to violent gusts of wind. Standard fabrics can be used here, but attention should be paid to resistance to fading from sunlight.

Where is it better not to install a Roman blind?

We at iDESCU are very fond of Roman blinds as window decorations. We produce them for various rooms and they work very well everywhere. Unfortunately we are not able to answer this question...
